Description
Heenbovitiya (Osbeckia octandra), known in English as the eight stamen osbeckia or liver plant, dried and milled into a fine green powder. It has been part of Sri Lankan home herbal traditions for generations, taken as a tea or stirred into a herbal porridge.
Ask a Sri Lankan grandmother about heenbovitiya and she will likely tell you it is good for the liver. The plant grows wild along streams and field edges, and its leaves have a long place in the island's home remedies.
We dry the fresh leaves gently and grind them into a fine powder so the plant is easy to keep and use, whether you brew it like a tea or fold it into a green kola kenda porridge in the morning.
It is a humble, bitter-green herb, not a miracle. We share it the way it has always been used at home, with respect for tradition and honesty about what it is.
How to Use
- Steep half a teaspoon as a herbal tea
- Stir into kola kenda (herbal porridge)
- Blend into a green smoothie
- Mix with warm water and a little honey
