Our story

Authentic Sri Lankan Cooking, Made Simple for Any Kitchen

CeylonCooking exists to bridge one gap: the food we grew up with at home, and the everyday kitchens and grocery shelves of the people cooking it now. No restaurant shortcuts, no mystery jars. Just honest, home-style Sri Lankan recipes you can actually make.

Why we started

Recipes That Respect the Tradition and Your Reality

So much Sri Lankan food online assumes you live within a tuk-tuk ride of a wet market. You're told to use fresh scraped coconut, goraka, pandan and Maldive fish. Then you're left stranded when none of it is on the shelf at your local supermarket.

We built CeylonCooking as a trust layer over that gap. Every recipe is written twice over: the authentic, home-style way, and a route through it using ingredients you can genuinely buy where you live. We tell you exactly what each substitute changes about the flavour, never pretending a swap is identical when it isn't.

The promise is simple. You should be able to land on any recipe here, look at your own pantry, and know how to cook it tonight, without a wasted shopping trip or a watered-down result.

Our authenticity stance

Honest About What "Authentic" Really Means

Sri Lankan cooking is not one fixed thing. Every region, every family and every grandmother has their own way, and they're all right. So we never claim to have the one true recipe.

"These are common Sri Lankan home-style versions. Regional and family variations exist."
The line you'll see across the site, and the principle behind it.

What you'll find here are widely-loved, home-cooked versions of classic dishes, the way they're commonly made in Sri Lankan kitchens. They're a faithful starting point, not a verdict. If your family makes it differently, your family is right too.
